I've not read through all the documentation recently, and haven't seen any specific description of how to group Tables, "…an explanation for how to group tables is included in Apple's own documentation." Not too, that if your purpose in grouping is to be able to move the objects, including tables, as a 'group', you can select all the items, then drag one of them to a new location, and, although the selected items have not been put in a Group, all the others will follow along. Note too, that selecting a cell in any of the 'tables' would show the row and column index tabs for the single table holding these pseudo tables within the larger 'real' table. And visually, you'd need to eliminate borders (and grid lines) for cells in what is to appear as 'blank space'.

The change would likely require re-writing some of the formulas to avoid full column or full row references. One thing you could do in place of grouping two or more tables is to recreate those ables as blocks of cells on a single table. The help articles I read do not mention this, but an error of omission doesn't change the facts. Nor can either of these types of object be gathered into a Group. One (or more) of the help items about objects notes that different objects have different properties, but doesn't go into detail. That error has apparently been seen and expunged from the list. A "Formula" is not an "item you place on a sheet." It's an "item you place in a cell", and the cell is 'placed on a sheet' only as part of a table. Same definition as you showed in your post, but given the broad definition in the first sentence, I'd say the second sentence starts with an error. Formulas, tables, charts, text boxes, and photos are examples of objects.
